Take the A515 north out of Ashbourne.
Travel through Fenny Bentley, past the Tissington turn off, for approx. 6 miles. On the left will eventually be a turn that directs you to Alstonefield and Milldale. Take this turn off.
Travel down this very narrow lane, down a steep hill until you reach the bridge over the River Dove.
Travel over the bridge and immediately turn left and travel down this beautiful Dale with the River Dove on your left.
This takes you to the village of Milldale. In the middle of the village the road turns 90 degrees, follow the road and travel away from the village.
Travel up this valley for approx 1 mile and you will see on the right handside a very pretty cottage situated on its own, this is Dale Bottom Cottage, (you have arrived for those who are staying here) carry on past the cottage and turn left immediately after the Watts Russell Pub.
Go a few yards uphill then turn left again, and travel towards Ilam. After about 1 mile there is a sign stating Stanshope, just after this the road will go around a bend to the left, with Stanshope Hall on your left.
Immediately after Stanshope Hall turn left down a lane - Church Farm is on the right after 20 yards.
