Dovedale Cottages at Church Farm

About the Fowlers

Winter scene at Church Farm
Winter scene at Church Farm.
We are Steve and Sue Fowler and we farm 80 acres organically. Steve's forebears have been at Church Farm for three million years or so it seems. Steve's sister has to come home periodically to make sure Steve can still find his way to Leek.

We use no fertilizers, herbicides or pesticides and are fully organic. Our fields contain a host of wild flowers and herbs, many quite rare. The animals are all our family friends and are treated with respect and love. Guests are welcome to get to know Steve's flock!

In addition to the beef and the sheep, there are free-range hens and ducks. Sometimes we have them all, sometimes we are missing one or two. No farm is without the the farmhouse cats, we have three hundred or so it seems, but actually only 2 at the moment, Thomas and Frankie and our collie/ sheepdogs, Polly and her son Freddie - who seriously earn their living and are spoilt beyond belief.

Hall Dale
Hall Dale
Stanshope is a tranquil farming hamlet in the heart of the southern Peak District, much of which is now owned by the National Trust.

Our lovely area offers really splendid walks, from the cottage door. You could start by walking down Hall Dale which will take you down to the river Dove and then walk alongside the river to Milldale and back up a footpath to the farm. Just a gentle stroll which would take you approximately 1.30hrs depending how fast or slow you walk, but back in time for breakfast.

We feel it is a real privilege to be living in such a wonderful area and welcome anyone who wishes to join us, so come and enjoy .
